Confirmation News
On Sunday February 21st, the Candidates will hold their 5th session at 7:00pm in the school.
The fifth session in their journey is "Anointing with Chrism". . .
The young people of the parish who are preparing for Confirmation will be reflecting on the significance of the ritual of anointing with the sacred Chrism in the rite of Confirmation. In the anointing candidates are "sealed" with the gift of the Holy Spirit, who makes it possible to continue the ministry of Jesus. The question to be answered is . . . How do we as a parish live as "anointed ones"?
The Candidates are asked to review Chapter 5 in their booklets. Each candidate is reminded that they need to submit their "Selecting a Sponsor" form at this meeting.
Mary Lou Beers, DRE at St. Mary Magdalene in Willowick will be joining our meeting to share her spiritual message of hope and love. Parents & Sponsors are invited to attend this presentation.
We ask that any other outstanding documentation and payments be brought to this meeting.

Dear 2009-10 Confirmation Candidate: Confirmation is a sacrament that increases the grace of Baptism uniting you even more firmly to Christ. It completes your initiation into the Church, and helps you to grow in faith through your involvement in the parish community. Preparing for a sacrament takes time and a willingness to grow in faith. This year you will be given the opportunity to become more familiar with the teachings of Jesus, deepen your prayer life, find your place in the Church, and put your faith into action by being a witness to others. Preparing for Confirmation is a journey. You have been on this journey since your Baptism. To help you on your journey, we will have sessions and activities. We will meet once a month in the fall and twice a month after the first of the year. We have a fantastic new website and you can find the schedule of all of our sessions online at www.stmarysbereareo.org. Go to the Youth Ministry section and click on Confirmation. If you need a paper copy of the schedule please contact our office. Please mark your calendar with the dates and times so that you can avoid any conflicts with work or extra curricular activities. It is so important that each candidate be present at all sessions. We are a community! The cost for the sacramental preparation is $85. This fee will be used to offset some of the costs for Catholic Youth Bibles, textbooks, supplies, speakers and the retreat. Please return the completed forms, a copy of your Baptismal Certificate and fee*, as soon as possible, so we can prepare for the coming year. Follow the Registration Docs navigation link on the Gold Bar (above) for the forms and documents necessary to register for this sacrament preparation. There is a $65 registration fee plus a $20 sacramental fee associated with this sacrament. This is a per candidate fee.

11/15/2009 - Sunday - 7:00-9:00pm - Confirmation Session 2 Session Theme: ”Proclaiming God’s Word” At this session candidates will receive their own bible after a brief service. This session will be held at St. Mary's Church.

02/07/2010 - Sunday - 12:00pm - Confirmation Enrollment Ceremony. Our Parish 10th grade youth and their sponsors are expected to attend the 12:00pm mass for the traditional "call to faith" and request to become Candidates to receive the sacrament of Confirmation.

05/02/2010 - Sunday - 7:00-8:30pm - Confirmation Practice. This preparation will be held in the church. It should be attended by both the Confirmation candidate & the Sponsor.
05/05/2010 – Wednesday – 7:00pm – Confirmation Mass. The sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated at mass, followed immediately after by a celebration in the Garrity Center. Refreshments will be provided.
******************************************************* Sunday, May 17, 2009 was the annual St. Mary Confirmation Mass for the 54 candidates spent 8 months in preparation to receive this most holy sacrament of initiation. The ceremony was held at the 12:00pm mass. Bishop A. J. Quinn presided.
Dear 2008-09 Confirmandi,
Our theme all year has been about rocks …as we complete this preparation what do I want to say to you?
We talked about building our faith on rock versus the shifting sand…(Matthew 7:24-25) we carried rough rocks as reminders of the rough edges of our faith and our need for the Holy Spirit to smooth out the rough edges in our lives. My prayer for you today is that you use the gifts of the Holy Spirit to smooth out your rough edges and help others smooth their rough edges. That you use those same gifts to make good decisions based on the rock of your faith instead of the shifting sands of the world.
We talked about rocks being obstacles and opportunities. I hope that as you continue your faith journey that you try to look at each and every rock on your path as an opportunity for growth. Embrace the rocks, even when they make you stumble.
We sang about rocks… “I am living on the rock of faith. I’m living on the rock of healing. I’m doing everything I can with every little act of love I know I won’t deny you Lord you know where I stand, I’m standing on the rock of faith.” Practice acts of love and healing!
We talked about cairns… pillars of stones created as meditations, monuments, prayers, markers of the holy. They were created by one on a faith journey and left for others to share. They create a community by connecting people on their faith journeys.
Create your own stone pillars. Leave your mark on the world. Let the world know where you have been and leave behind marks of your holiness everywhere you go!

Jesus said the rocks would cry out his name if his followers were silent...
