The Religious Education Program will continue . . . and hopefully expand the theme from last year . . .

Helping Hands . . . Open Hearts!

This theme will once again apply to our entire Program (PSR, Teen Faith, Youth Ministry and our Sacramental Preparation programs of First Reconciliation, First Holy Eucharist & Confirmation).

We will dedicate our Service efforts to the support of our Parish and its many ministries.  We will provide the list of ministries, and its contact person, to each of the Catechists who will then select a ministry/activity to help.  This "help" can be organizing, buying, collecting, cleaning, participating . . . anything needed to contribute to the success of the ministry/activity.  Each class will have at least one Project.

Once the class has selected their "Project" we will list each choice, what the class will be doing and follow their path to the event with pictures & updates.

2010-11 Helping Hands Projects

Our 2nd graders and our Confirmation Candidates will once again join up in our "Sacramental Sidekick" Program . . . but . . . we are going to take it to the next level.  They will be exchanging cards & letters about their sacramental preparation experience and they will involved in the preparation process!  Stay tuned for what's going to be happening!

2009-10 Helping Hands Projects

  Mrs. Scott - 3rd Grade

Sunday, April 25th, Martha Mays and Ginny Suhr, our friends from Under the Wing Animal Shelter, will come again and present a short talk on

Animal Safety.

They will also bring  a neat 10 month-old pup, Bragi,  who is a great Pyrenees and great with kids.

Parents and siblings are welcome.  Since Bragi is a big fella, he has a lot of fluffy hair.  So if anyone is allergic please have Mom or Dad bring any supplies

that you might need to class.

We will present our ‘good’ies basket for the animals which the children have earned with ‘good deeds’ during the year.

 Mrs. Dedrick's 7th graders

Participated in two Parish events . . . the Living Stations (with Mrs. Lasley's  4th graders) on Friday, March 12th where they read the Station readings . . . and the annual Parish May Crowning on Monday, May 3rd.  They recited the Rosary during this very special  ceremony.

  Mr. Morgan's 7th graders

On Monday, April 12th, the 7th graders (Mr. Morgan) spent the evening with the residents at Berea Lake Towers playing games and sharing conversation and good fellowship.  This event was a big success!  It's a special time for the youth of our parish to spend time with our parish seniors.

Mrs. Lasley's 4th graders (and Mrs. Dedrick's 7th graders) presented the living Stations of the Cross (childrens' version) on Friday March 12th at 7:00pm in the Church.  The Stations were very well received by the Parish . . . and by Fr. George & Fr. Chris.  Thanks to all the kids for sharing their faith with the entire Parish community.  A picture of the "troop" is listed below

Teen Faith - Mass & a Meal - BW Newman Center

Each year the Religious Education Program requests that each group (grade/class) be involved “outside the classroom” to share their faith with others.  This year our teens volunteered to attend mass with the Baldwin Wallace Newman Center on Sunday, November 1, 2009. The teen also prepared a meal to share with these college students.

The 1st graders (Ms. Tacina) & the 5th graders (Mr. Lehman & Mrs Ruszkowski) are supporting the annual parish "Giving Tree" effort by restocking the tree with ornaments each week and removing the packages from church.  Good Job kids!

  ************************************************************************************************

The 1st graders (Mrs. Klimo) & 6th graders (Mr. Rusnak) have been writing greeting cards for the parish shut-ins to help lift their spirits during the different holidays of the year.  They have already sent cards for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  We have already heard these special thoughts are much appreciated!

Our 2nd grade Sacramental Sidekicks have been sending & receiving  messages to their Confirmation friends.  The program is on hold until the Confirmation meetings begin again in January.

  2008-09 Projects

Here is a synopsis of the good things we did during the program year...

- Mrs. Gunn's (and Ms. Mallorie) taught their kindergarteners the sign of the cross, the Hail Mary, Our Father & the Glory Be!

- Mrs. Klimo’s 1st graders presented their version of the birth of Jesus "pageant" on Sunday, January 4th.  to view the pageant, select the link below . . .

(This is a Quicktime video file.  If you do not have Quicktime software, go to www.apple.com and download the software for free.)

- Ms. Tacina’s 1st graders performed over 1,000 good deeds.  These good deeds materialized into 2 beautiful “Tapestries of Good Deeds”.  For each good deed done 1 piece of yarn was added to a latch hook wall hanging.  As time goes on the children actually saw how all their good deeds add up to make a beautiful wall hanging.

- On Sunday, April 26th Mrs. Heitz’s 2nd graders & Mrs. Scott’s 3rd graders donated 4 full boxes of supplies to the "Under our Wing" program sponsored by St. Malachi Center in Cleveland.  The puppy and kittys seemed very happy!

- The "active" year for Mrs. Bachie & Mrs. Bricker's 3rd graders cam to a close on Sunday, April 26th when they presented the 2nd graders (who just received their 1st communion the day before) with a handmade Rosary.  The ARK looks great, as well as the Nativity Scene & crosses they made . . . wow, what a productive year!

- Mrs. Dedrick's & Mrs. Lasley's 4th graders presented the “Passion of Jesus”, the story of the death of Jesus on Sunday, April 5th & Monday, April 6th. Click on the slide below for the whole story . . .

- Mrs. Kehl & Mrs. Mikhael's 6th graders did an will be praying the Rosary at the Parish May Crowning, scheduled for Monday, May 4th.

- Mr. Morgan's 7th graders sent letters to the our diocese seminarians.  Many of them received return letters which was very exciting.
